It's the Final Countdown - Fri 07/11/25
Last full day and it does seem like we have been away ages. It's a hotel leisure day for the girls whilst I go for a subterranean fix. A lunchtime snack then back to the Hotel for a final dinner before the long journey back it's been a very enjoyable two weeks

Happy Birthday to you! - Thu 06/11/25
Birthday banners up , breakfast table decorated and birthday music playing, a lovely start to the day for Robyn's 30th with guests all involved including a breakfast glass of fizz. It was a wonderful day and lunch along the beach with celebrations continuing

Walking on Sunshine - Wed 05/11/25
Another scorcher of a day prep work for Robys big birthday. Exit our hotel and take a stroll along the beach to the town a find a wonderful food court 10,000= £3 so good value here and very tasty. A lovely bunch of fellow guests - it's only a 12 bedroom hotel and just eight rooms occupied , various nations including a South African Norwegian who name escapes me so just called him Olso which he doesn't seem to mind. It does feel a bit like the Death in Paradise program with th

Soak Up the Sun - Tue 04/11/25
Beautiful hot day and not planning any major adventures aside from a short wander into town. Robys has earache from swimming and snorkeling and it's getting worse although she's not saying how bad as the pain is somewhat distracted by the return of Internet and social media. However we agreed a pharmacy stop off later and go into the first place that resembles one but turns out to be a doctors after some admin work she's now hooked up to a drip and been given some painkillers

Time to Leave - Mon 03/11/25
Still off grid aside from the odd text message, Carphone Warehouse offering an upgraded Internet package which is rather bizarre. all things considered. Civilised start , me and Robys swerve breakfast, Clares cuppa had an oil slick appearance more BP than PG. Pay up and say goodbyes hopefully... we been assured we have a plane for us and sure enough after the arduous hotel transfer to the airport of 6 mins looking good so far in that we have the all important boarding pass

Splendid Isolation - Sun 02/11/25
Still off grid - day three and recalling the pre-internet era - No emails to check (social not work) No social media - it's the same pictures/posts No look up's on what to visit And the plus is you can't check how bad the cricket/football sides you support are doing It's something a whole generation has never experienced and means you have to actually talk to people more if you need to find out something /somewhere. At the moment it's novelty but does present a few challenges

Rhincodon typus - Whale Sharks to you and me - Sat 02/11/25
Peaceful night, Clare kipped in with Robys as they had an early start to hopefully see Whale Sharks. Free range day and nothing planned, chummed up with hotel bloke and before you can say pole pole (Swahili for slowly, slowly) we are off on the back on his chariot (125 Honda), he is a good rider and seems to be having fun with me twice his size on the back waving at everyone whilst still on his mobile phone, we stop for fuel, assume some sort of petrol but there's a huge v

Mafia - Fri 31/10/25
Early start, hotel check out with customary turpin tax although only 5$ per night per person but in fairness we are leaving 75% of our luggage for the next three days whilst we move on. Carnage on the mainland so not sure what we're flying into albeit it's just an internal airport transfer, still no Internet but reports aren't positive. I've put our luggage on security scanner no problems however we are in the wrong terminal so have drag stuff off the generation game style c

Happy Birthday to you - Thurs 30/10/25
It's Clare's Birthday so only too right the sun is out and on full blast for the first time this week we've decorated the room with cards from home and full steam ahead on an adventure, our trusty local man is on time as usual and we are seabound, down to the beach to board what must be the smallest tub on the beach not sure if Smart Cars do boats but if they did this would be one. No deterred we are all on and next stop is the Zanibar version of the Goodwin Sands - we have

Should I stay or Should I go now? - Weds 29/10/25
It's a little wet but not enough to deter more wandering , the girls are north bound to play with sealife stuff through our ever loyal tour guide, it's not really my bag to swim alongside flipper so for the first time this week we are on alternate schedule. We didn't think to much of it in terms of contingency which looking back was a combination of naievty and luck, we've travel a lot and adhere to our own rules between us which involve you have your own passport, money and

"I hear the drums echoing tonight. I bless the rains down in Africa - Tues 28/10/25
Zanzibar is a place where the weather can surprise you with sudden, heavy rain, but that’s just part of the adventure. When the skies open up, it’s not just any rain—it’s BIG rain and it certainly was, no liquid sunshine , no slight drizzle this was a deluge with no signs of stopping. We needed a plan although options not a plenty. But Zanzibar is famous for its spices and the trees should provide some shelter. We meet up with our local chap who despite the inclement weather

All we hear is...- Mon 27/10/25
I slept well , we are three hours ahead so it will catch up. The rooms are like a small castle. two bedrooms with three beds , all four poster but no good if your'e a Ronnie Corbett size as it's a hop, skip and a jump to get into bed. The seating area a bit different- a small set of cushions to sit on which is fine is you are a) under 50 b) Do yoga c) A Boney M fan of Rasputin The forecast has not been great although warm, there is a lot of rain predicted , not much we can d

I want to break free - Sun 26/10/25
Shockingly early start but we knew that even with a slight bit of respite with the clocks going back for the winter doom and gloom and was even sad enough to wait for 02:00 to see the time go back to 01:00 - Spring forward seems a long long way off. Easy journey to the airport which it should be at that time of day with our usual cab driver but he knows the score, counts the cases and people in and resists any small talk in the small hours. Arrived at Heathrow Terminal 4 whic
